After Diploma: Could we take admission in B.tech 2nd year at IITs and NITs.
There is no provision to take lateral entry in b.tech in IITs and NITS but they can take admission in the state government colleges via LEET. We will discuss LEET in the below section. Private colleges provide direct admission in the 2nd year.
Admission to IIT, and NIT
To take admission in IITs and NITs, you have to seat in JEE. There is no provision to take lateral entry. For NITs, you have to clear the cutoff of JEE mains then you will be eligible to seat in JEE Advance. If you clear the cutoff of JEE Advance then you will eligible to take admission in IIT. Norms to seat in JEE mains:
- 10th + 12th pass out
- 10th + Diploma (any branch)
LEET (Lateral Entry Entrance Test)
LEET Exam is for diploma students who want to do b.tech from 2nd year. This exam will provide them direct admission to some state government colleges and private colleges.
Eligibility Criteria for LEET Exam:
- 10th + Diploma
- 12th + Diploma
Admission process for B.tech after Diploma
There are two ways to take admission directly in 2nd year after diploma:
- Directly
- Entrance Exam
1. Directly
You can apply for lateral entry in b.tech after diploma directly in private colleges. They will take admission based on your result.
2. Entrance Exam
You can fill form for Lateral Entry Entrance Test(LEET) to take admission in state government and several private colleges.

- Delhi Technical University Lateral Entry Entrance Test
- Kerela University Lateral Entry Entrance Test
- Punjab Technical University Lateral Entry Entrance Test
- Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination
- Calicut University Lateral Entry Entrance Test
- Mumbai University Lateral Entry Entrance Test
About LEET Exam
If you want to take lateral Entry in state government colleges then you have to give the LEET exam which has been taken in many states. LEET isn't a National Level Examination. You have to decide in which State Government College you want to take admission then you have to fill that LEET examination form. I have already mentioned some type of Lateral Entry Examination above.
It's conducted via online mode. It's an objective type of total of 90 marks.
- The duration of the Exam is 90 minutes
- Language of the Examination: English
- The Paper of LEET exam has four sections:
- Section A: Basic Science
- Section B: Mechanical Department course
- Section C: Electronic Department Course
- Section D: Other Engineering courses
Preparation for Lateral Entry Entrance Test:
For the preparation of the LEET exam, you have to care about the Sections of the LEET paper and in which stream you want to take admission in B.tech. Question will be asked for your Diploma stream subjects. All questions will be in one language English, you didn't have an option to give your exam in your regional languages.
Firstly, you should have some basic knowledge of the stream in B.tech which you want to take admission to. Basic science is important for your LEET exam you have to prepared notes for this from the beginning session of the diploma so that you don't have any difficulty at the last moment.
Every stream has some basic topics to learn like Mechanic and Electronics which is too important for LEET preparation. You should also make notes of it.
