On 26th January 1950, our country adopted its constitution and became a fully sovereign nation. Since then, 26th January is celebrated as Republic Day in India. After this day, our country's constitution became a fundamental law and our country became fully independent and democratic. The Constitution, our country's fundamental law, came into power because of the diligence and hard work of men like Mahatma Gandhi and the numerous other freedom fighters who fought and sacrificed their lives. For the independence of our country, many freedom fighters sacrificed their lives. Nearly two and a half years after India gained its independence,  On this day that India became the most populous democracy in the world. That is why, This day is celebrated as Republic Day and it became a national festival of our country.

Republic Day: Its Significance

One of the Republic Day most important symbols is the display of military equipment, the national flag, and military equipment. Moreover, the 26th of January was also designated as Purna Swaraj Day. The official celebration of Independence Day was held for the first time on January 26th, 1930. It was observed until 1947.The new constitution was enacted under the leadership of Dr. BR Ambedkar.

The flag is also unfurled at the capitals, subdivisions, talukas, and panchayats. After all the celebrations of Republic Day have ended, the Beating the Retreat takes place. On January 29, the third day after Republic Day, the government buildings are beautifully illuminated in glittering lights.
A solo drummer is part of the celebrations (known as the Drummer's Call), followed by the sets marching back to the familiar martial tune Saare Jahan Se Achcha. The National Anthem is sung at 6 pm, wrapping up the Republic Day ceremonies.
