Essay on Valentine's Day

VALENTINE'S DAY

As we know Valentine's Day is Celebrated Every Year in the Month of February. Valentine's Day is also known as ST. Valentine's Day occurs on 14th February. Greetings and gifts are exchanged between lovers as an expression of affection. As a celebration of love and romance, it originated as a Christian feast day honouring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine. Over time, it has grown into an important celebration in many societies around the world.

This day is popular in the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, as well as Argentina, France, Mexico, and South Korea. It is the most common wedding anniversary in the Philippines, and huge weddings involving hundreds of couples are common on that date. The celebration has expanded to include expressions of affection among friends and relatives. This day is often used by schoolchildren to exchange valentines.

Valentine on India.

During antiquity, there was a tradition of adoring Kamadeva, the lord of love in India. These carvings are seen in the Khajuraho Group of Monuments and in the Kamasutra. Around the Middle Ages, this tradition was lost when Kamadeva became an insignificant celebration, and displays of public affection were frowned upon.[116] However, during the 1990s, this tradition slowly began to recover. Around 1992, Valentine's Day celebrations in India became popular due to shows on commercial channels like MTV, radio programs and contests for love letters, as well as due to the liberalization of the economy.

Shiv Sena and the Sangh Parivar have asked their followers to shun the holiday and the "public admission of cultural contamination from the West. In modern times", Hindu and Islamic traditionalists blame the holiday on globalization. While the protesters themselves are political elites, the protests themselves are primarily led by middle-class Hindus who fear that globalization may destroy the traditions of their society: arranged marriages, Hindu joint families, full-time mothers, and so on.

Valentine Day in Popular Culture.

Therefore, Valentine's Day is considered popular culture because it is an unofficial holiday in which many people participate, primarily due to its status as a commercial institution that represents "the people" and is made by "the people". Valentine's Day is depicted in many films, including A Charlie Brown Valentine (2002), The Notebook (2004), Blue Valentine (2010), To all the Boys I have Loved Before (2018) and so on.
